3.11: Summary of Innervation (503-507)

Cutaneous Innervation

Segmental.

Skin of buttock

¨ subcostal, IH, posterior rami of first three lumbar and first three sacral nerve, perforating cutaneous nerve, and upward contribution of posterior femoral cutaneous nerve

Back of thigh

¨ posterior cutaneous nerve with medial & lateral fem cut nerves to sides

Front of thigh

¨ subcostal, femoral branch of genitofemoral and IL nerves ¨ skin below inguinal ligament

¨ lateral, intermediate and medial femoral cut nerves skin on rest of thigh.

¨ obturator contributes to medial side

Front of knee

¨ med fem cut nerve and lat cut nerve of calf & saphenous nerve (last ¨ MT jt great toe)

Front of leg and foot

¨ superficial peroneal, with deep supplying 1st toe cleft

Lateral side of back of leg and foot

¨ sural nerve takes over from late cut nerve of calf.

Heel and Sole

¨ Medial calcanean branches of tibial nerve ¨ heel

¨ medial and lateral plantar nerves ¨ sole

Muscular

Thigh

Anterior = femoral, Adductors = obturator, posterior = tibial part of sciatic

-           only short head of biceps supplied by common peroneal part

Gluteal

Inferior gluteal nerve ¨ glut max

Superior ¨ other gluts and tensor fascia lata

Own nerves ¨ short lateral rotators behind hip, obturator externus = obturator nerve.

Flexor compartment

Tibial nerve, plantar branches ¨ sole

Common peroneal ¨ superficial peroneal for peroneal compartment and deep for anterior compartment.

SNS

Grey ramus ¨ each lumbar and sacral nerve root ¨ postganglionics to every nerve

Preganglionics come from T11-L2
